Aave Founder Issues Strong Denial Over Acquisition Speculation

Recent reports suggesting that Payward, the parent company of crypto exchange Kraken, was in talks to acquire a stake in the Aave protocol at a significant discount have stirred the community. Aave founder Stani Kulechov took to social media platform X to address these rumors head-on.

In a clear statement, Kulechov asserted, "Selling AAVE at a 70% discount is absolutely not happening." While acknowledging that Aave Labs holds a portion of AAVE tokens and that there have been market discussions regarding potential purchases, he firmly refuted the specific valuation and terms cited in the media reports, labeling them as inaccurate.

Protocol Financials and Revenue Distribution

Underpinning this debate is the Aave protocol's solid financial health. Current estimates place its annualized revenue at approximately $134 million. Crucially, all of this revenue is directed to the Aave DAO, governed and allocated by the community.

This distribution model is by design. In April, Kulechov successfully championed the "Aave Will Win" governance proposal. Its key provisions include channeling 100% of protocol revenue to the DAO and token holders, with plans to introduce an "Aavenomics 3.0" automatic buyback mechanism in the future, further accruing value to ecosystem participants.

Recent Challenges and Protocol Resilience

The Aave ecosystem has faced recent headwinds, notably a significant drop in Total Value Locked (TVL) following a security incident involving the associated project KelpDAO. However, it's important to note that the Aave protocol itself was not directly compromised in this event; its core contracts and liquidity pools remained secure.

The acquisition rumors and the founder's prompt rebuttal have inadvertently redirected market attention to Aave's fundamentals: its sustained revenue generation, committed decentralized governance path, and the underlying resilience of the protocol amidst market fluctuations.
