Kolten, a member of the Aave Labs team, recently took to the X platform to clarify the timeline around Aave's protocol version upgrades, addressing growing concerns about the future of V3.

V3 Will Remain Operational

Amid growing speculation, Kolten emphasized that Aave V3 will continue to operate normally even after the launch of Aave V4. There are currently no plans to phase out or discontinue V3 in the foreseeable future.

He explained that the timeline outlined in the 'Aave Will Win Framework' is not rigid but flexible, subject to real-world conditions and ecosystem needs.

V4: An Evolution, Not a Revolution

According to Kolten, Aave V4 is not a completely new protocol from scratch. Rather, it's the culmination of a decade of experience gained through the development of Aave V1, V2, V3 (including eMode), GHO, and the Safety Module.

It also reflects the results of over a thousand hours of business development conversations with partners, fintech firms, institutions, developers, and infrastructure providers.

Active Development on V3 Continues

Contrary to assumptions that V3 development would slow down in anticipation of V4, Kolten noted that Aave Labs has actively continued to promote V3 across multiple markets.

  • Significant integrations are still based on V3
  • Labs continues to drive partnerships around V3
  • New use cases are being explored regularly

This clarification provides stability and clarity for the Aave ecosystem, reinforcing confidence among developers, users, and institutional partners as the protocol continues to evolve.
