Alibaba's AI Agent Suite Takes Center Stage at World AI Conference
Alibaba Group is set to feature a suite of its core artificial intelligence offerings at this year's World AI Conference, with a particular spotlight on multiple AI agent platforms designed for distinct scenarios. These platforms highlight the evolution of AI from possessing general capabilities to delivering deep, vertical-specific empowerment.
DAMO Lingshu: An "Accelerator" for Scientific Discovery
Alibaba's research arm, DAMO Academy, is preparing to open its "DAMO Lingshu" platform for external testing. Positioned as an intelligent collaborator for researchers, it is more than a simple tool—it's a professional agent capable of comprehending complex scientific problems, planning research pathways, and executing analyses.
The platform's practical utility has already been demonstrated. With its assistance, a research team utilized the academy's foundational model for materials science, "Elements," to systematically screen and predict vast material combinations. The results are striking: the platform successfully identified 68,000 potential new materials with superconducting properties. Crucially, subsequent experiments have successfully synthesized and confirmed the superconductivity of four entirely new materials from this list, dramatically accelerating the traditional trial-and-error process of material discovery.
Bailian Platform: Evolving Enterprise-Grade AI Inference
On the enterprise service front, Alibaba Cloud's Bailian inference platform has introduced a new subscription service called TokenPlan. This service aims to provide business clients with more flexible and cost-effective solutions for large model API calls and inference, thereby lowering the barrier to AI adoption.
Official metrics indicate the platform's rapidly expanding reach. To date, Bailian serves over 5 million users globally, including 1.2 million paying customers. These figures underscore the strong market demand for reliable, high-performance cloud-based AI services and signal that Alibaba's investment in enterprise AI infrastructure is maturing at scale.
From Lab to Industry: Closing the AI Value Loop
The two platforms on display neatly encapsulate the AI value chain. "DAMO Lingshu" represents AI's role in empowering frontier scientific exploration, addressing the challenge of original innovation from "0 to 1." The evolution of the Bailian platform, conversely, exemplifies how AI technology achieves scalable commercial deployment from "1 to N," transforming innovative potential into tangible productivity.
Their joint debut suggests Alibaba is focused on building a full-stack AI capability system that spans basic research, technological development, and industrial application. AI agents are evolving beyond conversational tools into components deeply integrated into professional workflows, becoming pivotal in enhancing core efficiency across sectors.
