Anchorage Digital Makes Strategic Move into Enterprise Payments
In a significant development reported by The Defiant, digital asset bank Anchorage Digital has acquired Routable, a B2B payments platform. The financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, but the acquisition underscores Anchorage's strategic push to bridge digital assets with mainstream corporate finance.
The Value Proposition of Routable
Routable provides an automated payment infrastructure tailored for businesses. Its developer-first API facilitates payee onboarding, verification, and handles automated tax and compliance workflows. The platform enables batch payments to creators, contractors, and vendors across 220+ countries, supporting both fiat currencies and stablecoin settlements.
Solving the "Final Mile" for Fiat
Anchorage outlined its evolving client base: starting with crypto-native firms, then traditional financial institutions exploring digital assets, and ultimately targeting large technology companies and Fortune 500 enterprises with massive payment needs. Serving this last and most demanding group required a solution for the "final mile" of fiat integration—seamlessly connecting crypto settlement efficiency with legacy corporate payment systems. The acquisition of Routable directly addresses this gap.
"Routable's capabilities are a perfect complement to our existing suite," a representative from Anchorage noted. "It allows us to offer a smooth pathway for blue-chip companies that may not be ready for pure-crypto payments but are keen to improve cross-border efficiency and explore stablecoin settlement."
Roadmap: New Brand and Upcoming Products
Routable will continue to operate under its own brand post-acquisition. More notably, Anchorage plans to launch new stablecoin settlement products and tokenized deposit services in the coming quarters, leveraging this integration. This move signals a shift for crypto infrastructure providers from pure custody into more complex payment and treasury management workflows.
Beyond a corporate merger, this acquisition is a market signal. Stablecoins and tokenized assets are transitioning from investment vehicles into practical payment tools for daily business operations. As compliant pathways are built and user experience is streamlined, the barrier for large traditional enterprises to adopt digital asset settlement is rapidly diminishing.
