Invesco Files for Tokenized Fund Aimed at Stablecoin Reserves

Global asset manager Invesco, with approximately $2.45 trillion in assets under management, is making a strategic move into the digital asset space. Recent amended filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reveal plans to launch the "Invesco Stablecoin Reserves Onchain Fund," a new product within its Short-Term Investments Trust.

Investment Strategy: Safety and Daily Liquidity

The fund is specifically designed for stablecoin issuers, not general investors. Its portfolio will focus on high-quality, short-term assets such as U.S. Treasury securities, repurchase agreements, and cash equivalents.

The primary objective is to maintain a stable net asset value of $1.00 per share while offering daily liquidity. This structure aims to provide stablecoin projects with a compliant, yield-generating vehicle for their reserves, aligning with evolving regulatory frameworks like the proposed GENIUS Act.

The On-Chain Element: Tokenizing Fund Shares

A key innovation lies in the fund's operational structure. Invesco will partner with blockchain infrastructure firm Superstate, which will act as a secondary transfer agent for "tokenized shares." This means ownership units of the fund will be recorded on a designated public blockchain.

While the specific blockchain network has not been disclosed, this move represents a significant step in bridging traditional finance with digital asset infrastructure, enhancing transparency and potential transferability of fund interests.

A Growing Wall Street Trend

Invesco's initiative is part of a broader wave of activity. Other established financial institutions, including State Street, have recently launched or proposed similar tokenized money market funds.

This trend underscores a strategic push by traditional asset managers to capture a share of the burgeoning market for managing stablecoin reserves. By leveraging blockchain technology, they are seeking to modernize fund administration and tap into new sources of demand, signaling a competitive race to define the future of tokenized traditional assets.
