Founder Steps Forward to Address Key Community Issues
Amidst growing discussions within the community, Backpack founder Armani Ferrante has issued a comprehensive statement addressing several points of contention, aiming to clarify the team's position and outline the path forward.
Clear Stance on OTC Transactions and Team Finances
Responding to speculation about the team cashing out through over-the-counter (OTC) deals, Armani offered a firm denial. He clarified that his previous comments on OTC were related only to assisting buyers in finding token liquidity, not actions taken by the core team. He stressed that the team's financial incentives are fundamentally aligned with the long-term success of the project.
Re-evaluating the Approach to Account Review
Armani provided a candid assessment of the initial strategy for identifying and handling suspected sybil accounts. He acknowledged that the early approach was too rigid and binary, failing to account for the nuanced situations of genuine community members. This led to negative experiences for some users. The team is now actively re-examining past cases with the goal of implementing more nuanced and fair criteria.
Mad Lads Benefits and Long-Term Incentive Design
The founder also clarified the benefits for Mad Lads NFT holders. Users holding the NFTs prior to the Token Generation Event (TGE) will retain their Backpack VIP status and associated perks. This design was intended to reward early supporters of the platform. New holders acquired after TGE are not eligible for these specific privileges, underscoring a focus on long-term community alignment.
Focus on Long-Term Value, Shared Fate with Token
When addressing market focus on token price, Armani presented a different perspective. He argued that short-term Fully Diluted Valuation (FDV) is not a core metric for project health. He reiterated that the team's interests are deeply tied to the token's ultimate success—a scenario where the token fails would also mean the team gains nothing. This shared fate compels the team to focus on building sustainable, long-term value.
Concluding his remarks, Armani stated that while community communication and case reviews continue, the team's primary focus is returning to core product development and executing on the Backpack ecosystem roadmap.
