Overview of the Base Network Issue

On January 31, the Base network experienced significant transaction drops and delays in block packing. The root cause was traced back to a configuration change related to transaction propagation, which caused block builders to repeatedly attempt processing transactions that had become unexecutable due to a rapid spike in base fees.

Resolution and Immediate Actions

To address the issue, the Base Build team swiftly rolled back the problematic configuration change, restoring network stability and ensuring smooth operations resumed.

Plans for Future Optimization

To prevent similar incidents and improve responsiveness during unforeseen events, the following key enhancements are being implemented:

  • Optimize the transaction pipeline by removing unnecessary P2P overhead
  • Adjust mempool queue parameters, with optimization expected to take approximately one month
  • Improve alert systems and monitoring mechanisms during infrastructure rollouts

Enhancing Stability and Incident Response

These improvements aim to strengthen the overall stability of the Base network and enhance its ability to manage unexpected issues, ensuring a more seamless and reliable user experience.
