Base Postpones Beryl Mainnet Upgrade, Paving Way for B20 Token Standard
The scheduled Beryl mainnet upgrade for Base has been rescheduled to 18:00 UTC on June 26. The delay is intended to guarantee the full operational readiness of a critical component: the B20 Activation Registry.
Key Deployment Requirement for Developers
Developers looking to create new tokens on Base must note a key prerequisite. The deployment of tokens under the new B20 standard will only be possible after the B20 Activation Registry goes live. The transition from registry activation to full deployment capability is estimated to take up to one hour.
The B20 standard is a native token framework introduced with the Beryl upgrade, designed to offer more robust infrastructure for tokenizing a wide range of on-chain assets.
Additional Enhancements in the Upgrade
Beyond the B20 standard, the Beryl upgrade includes several user-focused improvements:
- Faster Withdrawals: The withdrawal period for moving assets from Base to Ethereum Mainnet will be reduced from 7 days to 5 days.
- Performance Integration: The upgrade incorporates RethV2, a significant update to the node client software aimed at enhancing network performance and stability.
Clarification on Prior Network Incident
The Base team has addressed a separate mainnet block production interruption that occurred approximately two hours before the upgrade announcement. They confirmed this incident was unrelated to the Beryl upgrade preparations and has since been resolved.
