BAYC Expands into Physical Collectibles with Mudwater Trading Cards
On October 18th, the renowned NFT project Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) announced its venture into physical collectibles with the launch of "Mudwater," a trading card series built on the Solana blockchain. This release blends tangible cards with their digital counterparts, creating a novel experience for the community.
Claim Mechanics and Distribution Scope
The project airdropped 6551 "Totem" tokens to all BAYC and Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) holders. These tokens serve as claim passes: each BAYC NFT can be redeemed for 10 card packs, while each MAYC NFT grants 2 packs.
Each pack contains 10 cards, and 24 packs form one box. The total print run is capped at 10,000 boxes. Claimed packs and the individual cards within them are already tradable on marketplaces like OpenSea.
Artwork and Rarity Tiers
The Mudwater series features 120 unique pieces of artwork. To enhance collectibility, the cards are divided into several rarity categories:
- Holographic Cards: Featuring eye-catching reflective designs.
- Numbered Cards: Issued with unique serial numbers.
- Ice Cracked Cards: The rarest tier, which includes 8 ultra-exclusive 1-of-1 editions.
Physical Production and Tokenomics
The physical cards are produced by Orange Cap Games using their proprietary "Orange Core" paper, aimed at delivering superior quality and durability.
A notable feature is the series' economic model linked to the APE token. 2.5% of every secondary market transaction for Mudwater cards will be allocated to buy back APE tokens from the open market. These repurchased tokens will then be distributed proportionally among Mudwater card holders, directly tying collection ownership to token rewards.
Roadmap and Future Upgrades
Looking ahead, the project plans to introduce an "upgrade" system. Holders will reportedly be able to consolidate a number of loose packs into sealed boxes or even larger cases, potentially adding new dimensions to collecting and trading.
