Strategy 1: Covered Calls
The Covered Call is an income-generating strategy designed for investors who own a stock and are willing to cap their upside potential in exchange for immediate premium income.
- Hold the Underlying Asset: The trader must already own shares of the specific stock.
- Sell a Call Option: The trader sells a call option contract against their owned shares, receiving an upfront premium.
- Potential Outcomes: If the option expires worthless, the trader keeps the full premium and the shares. If assigned, they are obligated to sell their shares at the predetermined strike price.
This strategy is ideal for generating extra yield from a stagnant or moderately bullish stock position.
Strategy 2: Cash-Secured Puts
The Cash-Secured Put strategy is often used by traders aiming to acquire a stock at a specific price or simply collect premium income.
- Collateralize with Cash: The trader sells a put option and sets aside the full amount of USDC required to purchase the shares if assigned.
- Collect the Premium: Upon selling the put, the trader instantly receives the option premium.
- Potential Outcomes: If the option expires unexercised, the trader pockets the premium and the USDC collateral is freed. If assigned, they must buy the underlying stock at the strike price using the reserved funds.

- Trading Hours: Trading is available from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM Eastern Time.
- Settlement: Contracts are physically settled upon expiration, involving the actual delivery of shares or USDC.
- Execution & Custody: Trade execution and custody services are handled by Alpaca Securities LLC.
- Access Requirements: Users must complete an options suitability assessment and sign a risk disclaimer before they can begin trading.
