$100M in Bitcoin Collateral Goes Live On-Chain
On October 22, the decentralized trading and lending platform Dolomite revealed a major integration: via the BTCcx infrastructure from Concrete, the platform has onboarded $100 million worth of Bitcoin-backed collateral and simultaneously activated borrowing functionality against it.
Borrowing Without Moving Your Bitcoin
BTCcx is an Ethereum-based token representing Bitcoin held by qualified custodians. Concrete manages the token's issuance and lifecycle. The key innovation here is:
- Custodial Assets Remain Secure: Users don't need to sell or withdraw their Bitcoin from custody.
- On-Chain Efficiency: BTCcx serves as collateral within Dolomite's actively managed borrowing positions, enabling loans entirely on-chain.
- Institutional-Grade Access: It bridges traditionally custodied Bitcoin into the DeFi ecosystem.
Bridging Traditional Finance and DeFi
This isn't the first collaboration between the two parties. Concrete previously integrated another institutional asset class into Dolomite via its WLFIcx product. Now, using its standardized AssetCX framework, the partnership has expanded to include Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency by market cap.
This allows institutional or individual Bitcoin holders to access liquidity in DeFi lending markets without compromising custodial security. For Dolomite, it significantly diversifies its collateral base, bringing more robust and substantial liquidity to its platform.
The move is seen as another concrete step in merging mainstream assets with decentralized finance protocols. It not only enhances asset diversity in on-chain lending but could also serve as a template for more traditional financial institutions to engage with the DeFi ecosystem.
