BitMEX Unlocks Withdrawals for Select User Base
In a significant policy update, the cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX has reopened withdrawal access for clients in several major markets. This move comes after the platform halted its general operations last month.
Regions Now Eligible for Fund Access
Users from six specific jurisdictions can now log in, complete Know-Your-Customer (KYC) verification, and withdraw their remaining balances. The list of eligible regions is as follows:
- United States
- Canada
- Hong Kong
- Bermuda
- Seychelles
- Myanmar
This decision provides a clear exit path for affected clients in these areas to retrieve their funds.
Ongoing Restrictions and Exceptions
Withdrawal services remain fully suspended for users in jurisdictions under international sanctions. Currently, this includes Cuba, Iran, North Korea, and the Russian-occupied regions of Ukraine.
The exchange has outlined a potential exception process for Iranian or Russian nationals residing outside these sanctioned areas. Such users may submit proof of residence to initiate a compliance review for their withdrawal requests.
Important Notices for Clients
BitMEX issued two critical warnings alongside this update. The platform strongly advised all users against making any further deposits into their accounts. Additionally, clients who choose to leave funds on the platform should be aware that account maintenance or inactivity fees may apply in the future.
This phased reopening reflects the exchange's ongoing efforts to navigate global regulatory requirements while addressing user asset concerns.
