Cambrian Raises $6M in Seed Round for Institutional Blockchain Data APIs

Blockchain data infrastructure startup Cambrian has closed a $6 million seed funding round. The investment was co-led by global asset management firm Franklin Templeton and crypto-focused investment fund Polychain Capital. Additional participation came from Flow Traders, Selini Capital, Paper Ventures, and Nomad Capital, among others.

Total Funding Reaches $11.9M Following Pre-Seed Round

This seed round builds upon Cambrian's earlier fundraising success. Prior to this, the company secured $5.9 million in a pre-seed round led by the a16z Crypto Startup Accelerator. The combined funding of $11.9 million underscores strong investor confidence in Cambrian's vision and execution capability.

API Services Tailored for Institutions and AI Agents

Founded in 2024, Cambrian is building data infrastructure specifically designed for professional institutions and AI agents. Its core offering is a suite of APIs that deliver both real-time and historical on-chain data analytics.

The data covers critical dimensions necessary for informed capital allocation decisions on-chain, including:

  • Yield & Rate Data: Tracking returns across DeFi protocols and on-chain lending/borrowing rates.
  • Risk Metrics: Providing parameters to assess smart contract, liquidity pool, and market volatility risks.
  • Trading & Liquidity Analysis: Monitoring on-chain transaction activity and the depth/distribution of liquidity positions.
  • Market Sentiment Insights: Deriving sentiment trends from on-chain behavioral data.

The platform aims to empower hedge funds, asset managers, trading firms, and automated systems to make more precise and efficient capital deployment decisions within complex blockchain ecosystems.

Market Insight: Rising Demand for Professional Data Solutions

Cambrian's successful fundraise highlights a key trend in the crypto market: the surging demand for reliable, granular, and easily integrated on-chain data services as institutional involvement deepens and automated strategies proliferate. Basic blockchain explorers and data feeds are increasingly inadequate for institutional needs regarding speed, depth, and customization. Startups offering standardized, productized data solutions are becoming a focal point for strategic capital investment.
