Innovative Technology Positions Bitcoin as a Verification Layer
Boundless has unveiled a groundbreaking cross-chain verification system that allows zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs generated on the Ethereum mainnet and Base layer-2 network to be verified and ultimately settled on the Bitcoin blockchain.
Leveraging BitVM and Boundless' ZK Network, this solution enables Bitcoin to act as a secure verification and settlement layer for computationally intensive ZK proofs, all without modifying the Bitcoin protocol.
Bitcoin's New Role: Security Endorser
Boundless clarifies that this system does not aim to turn Bitcoin into an Ethereum-like network, but rather to allow Bitcoin to provide an additional layer of security for Ethereum-style executions.
- ZK proofs can be efficiently verified using Bitcoin’s robust security.
- The Bitcoin protocol remains unchanged, preserving its decentralized nature.
- Plans are underway to expand to more chains and ecosystems, reinforcing Bitcoin’s role as a shared security layer across the blockchain landscape.
Future Expansion
The system is already integrated with Citrea, a native ZK Rollup solution on Bitcoin. Boundless plans to extend support to more blockchains, further positioning Bitcoin as the foundational security layer for the broader blockchain ecosystem.
