Blockchain Solutions for AI's Core Challenges
Hoskinson identifies several pain points in current AI development where blockchain technology offers compelling solutions. Reliable micropayment systems for AI services, verifiable alignment mechanisms to ensure AI systems act in human interests, and transparent data provenance for training materials all represent areas where distributed ledger technology could provide critical infrastructure.

The conversation turned to infrastructure. Hoskinson expressed skepticism about the current race to build ever-larger data centers. "We can't keep increasing compute spending tenfold every year. Global power grids simply won't support it." He anticipates underutilized data centers becoming common as physical and economic constraints take hold.

As centralized data centers hit their limits, AI computation will increasingly move toward local and edge computing models. Future processing power may come from a globally distributed network of GPUs, smartphones, and IoT devices, coordinated into a unified resource pool.
"Cryptographic protocols will be essential for managing these networks," Hoskinson notes. "They'll handle task coordination between devices and manage the associated settlements and incentive structures."
A $10 Trillion Vision for 2030
Based on these technological trajectories, Hoskinson projects substantial growth for the blockchain sector. By 2030, he believes public blockchain networks could manage assets worth $10 trillion while onboarding approximately one billion new users.
These figures reflect more than cryptocurrency adoption—they signal blockchain's maturation into foundational infrastructure for the next digital era. When AI and crypto truly merge, what emerges may be less two separate industries and more a single, interconnected technological ecosystem.
