China Calls for Concrete Ceasefire Compliance at UN Gaza Emergency Session

On June 19, the UN Security Council convened an emergency public meeting addressing the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. China's Permanent Representative to the UN, Fu Cong, addressed the council, centering his remarks on the imperative of achieving a durable and genuine ceasefire in the region. With recent signs of de-escalation in the Middle East, China expressed hope that this positive momentum would be sustained, creating favorable conditions for resolving regional flashpoints, including Gaza.

Grave Concern Over Israel's Continued Military Expansion

Ambassador Fu Cong pointed out that despite the ceasefire agreement reached last October, Israel has continued and even expanded its military occupation. China views this development with grave concern. History has consistently shown that reliance on military force cannot deliver lasting security; it only erects more barriers to peace and deepens the humanitarian crisis for civilians.

Urging Full Adherence to the Truce and an End to Provocations

In this context, China called on all relevant parties, particularly Israel, to fully and strictly comply with the established ceasefire agreement and to immediately cease any military adventurism that violates the truce. The window for peace requires collective safeguarding, as unilateral actions only further complicate the situation.

Appeal for Proactive Role from Influential Nations

Fu Cong further emphasized that countries with significant influence over the parties involved should shoulder their responsibility and take more proactive and constructive actions to realize a lasting ceasefire in Gaza. A concerted international effort is crucial to breaking the cycle of violence and advancing a political settlement.
