Citi Bullish on SK Hynix: Target Price Held, Profit Forecasts Raised
In a recent research update, global investment bank Citi reaffirmed its positive stance on SK Hynix. The report not only maintained the 'Buy' rating and a target price of KRW 3 million but also delivered a significantly upgraded outlook for the company's near-term and medium-term financial performance.
Key Forecasts Revised Upward, Spotlight on Q4
The central focus of Citi's update is its revised profit projections. The bank has substantially raised its operating profit forecast for SK Hynix's fourth fiscal quarter from KRW 89.8 trillion to KRW 107 trillion. This sizable adjustment underscores analysts' growing confidence in the company's year-end performance.
This optimism extends further out. Citi also raised its full-year operating profit estimates for fiscal years 2026 and 2027 by 7% and 12%, respectively. This series of upward revisions sends a clear signal to the market about a potentially strengthening profit trajectory for the memory chip leader.
Substantial Shareholder Returns on the Horizon
Bolstered by its improved cash flow and earnings outlook, Citi's report also highlighted expectations for shareholder returns. The analysis projects a total shareholder return scale of approximately KRW 100 trillion by fiscal year 2026.
The initiation of this large-scale program could begin as early as the upcoming fourth quarter. Citi anticipates that SK Hynix may implement returns worth around KRW 35 trillion in Q4, expected to be composed of:
- Approximately KRW 15 trillion in share buybacks
- Approximately KRW 20 trillion in cash dividends
Such a magnitude of returns, if realized, would likely solidify investor confidence and enhance the stock's appeal.
Market Perspective: Confidence Rooted in Fundamental Improvements
The tone of Citi's report reflects a reassessment by some market analysts regarding the memory semiconductor sector and its key players like SK Hynix. Upward profit revisions typically stem from positive views on factors like product demand, pricing environment, or operational efficiency. This report provides investors following the semiconductor space with a fresh, professional viewpoint and suggests that the company's financial performance may become a focal point for the market in the coming period.
