Coinbase Gains Strategic Foothold in Middle East with Abu Dhabi License
Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has achieved a significant milestone in its international expansion strategy. The company confirmed it has been granted a Financial Services Permission by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Abu Dhabi Global Market.
Beyond a License: Building a Tokenization Hub
This license is more than a regulatory green light. It authorizes Coinbase to operate regulated activities, including arranging investments and providing custody services within the ADGM. Crucially, it establishes the necessary regulatory foundation for the exchange to develop and list tokenized securities in the future.
Leveraging this approval, Coinbase plans to establish an "International Tokenization Center" within ADGM. This center is envisioned as a dedicated hub to foster innovation in asset tokenization and advance the infrastructure for on-chain capital markets in the region.
UAE as a Global Infrastructure Pillar
In its announcement, Coinbase positioned the United Arab Emirates as a cornerstone of its global strategy outside the United States. The country is now officially regarded as one of the exchange's key international hubs for financial infrastructure development.
This move underscores Coinbase's focused effort to build a worldwide network that bridges traditional and crypto-based finance. Establishing a presence in Abu Dhabi, known for its progressive regulatory environment and strategic location, allows Coinbase to engage institutional clients and pioneer new, compliant financial products tailored for a global audience.
Industry analysts note that this approval not only marks a win for Coinbase but also signals the Middle East's growing commitment to becoming a major player in the future of digital asset innovation and regulated crypto finance.
