The Corporate March into Tokenized Finance
A recent survey commissioned by DBS Bank and conducted by EY, polling 422 financial leaders from large corporations (annual revenue exceeding $500 million) across 11 markets, provides a snapshot of how businesses are integrating digital assets.
Tokenization Moves Beyond Experimentation
The most striking finding is that 88% of surveyed financial decision-makers report their organizations are either actively using or piloting tokenized monetary instruments. This signals a shift from theoretical discussion to practical implementation.
- Scaled Deployment (24%): Nearly a quarter are leading the charge, integrating solutions into core operations.
- Limited Rollout (43%): Over two-fifths are proceeding cautiously in specific business lines or markets.
- Pilot/Proof-of-Concept (21%): Another segment remains in the testing phase.
Stablecoins Emerge as the Preferred Instrument
Among the available tools, corporate preferences form a clear hierarchy. Stablecoins lead, with 63% adoption or planned adoption, their price stability addressing a key corporate need for predictability. They are followed closely by tokenized deposits (53%) and tokenized money market funds (52%), indicating exploration beyond payments into broader asset efficiency.
Tangible Benefits and Persistent Hurdles
The survey records positive outcomes: 71% of respondents note that real-time cross-border payments have already improved or are expected to improve within two years—a likely key driver for continued investment.
Challenges remain prominent. Regulatory uncertainty, security concerns, and integration difficulties with legacy systems are cited as primary obstacles. Interestingly, about 64% of those surveyed prefer traditional banks to act as a "single gateway" into the tokenization ecosystem, highlighting an enduring reliance on trusted intermediaries and regulatory comfort.
