Cross-Chain Exploit Drains Over $800k from Smart Token Vesting V2
A recent security incident involving a smart token vesting protocol has come to light. According to an official incident report from the relevant network, the attacker successfully exploited a public function within the protocol's V2 version, without requiring any administrative privileges.
The Exploit Mechanism and Affected Networks
The attack was executed on October 14th. The attacker manipulated a set of public vesting operations to create a discrepancy between the actual token balance in a vesting pool and the recorded share balance. This inconsistency allowed controlled positions to withdraw a significantly larger amount of tokens than entitled.
The impact spanned several major blockchain networks:
- Ethereum
- BNB Chain
- Base
- Robinhood
The exploit involved 10 different tokens across 11 confirmed withdrawal transactions.
Financial Impact and Post-Incident Recovery
The verified direct financial loss from this attack is approximately $807,600. The BNB Chain suffered the heaviest loss, accounting for about $567,500 of the total.
Following the incident, there has been positive movement from the white hat community. A portion of the misappropriated assets has been returned, including a substantial quantity of a specific token and 23.8682 ETH. The report indicates that no major batches of tokens remain outstanding for recovery.
This event underscores the critical importance of logical robustness in all DeFi protocol functions, even those without privileged access. Comprehensive security audits and stress testing for all contract interaction points remain essential.
