Sentiment Swings: From Fear to Extreme Greed in Record Time

The mood in the cryptocurrency market has undergone a dramatic shift. In a stunning reversal, the widely watched Crypto Fear & Greed Index catapulted from a reading of 27 (Fear) on August 12th to 74 (Greed) by this Tuesday, all within a fortnight. Although it moderated to 65 on Wednesday, the speed of this sentiment flip is remarkable.

More significantly, the index has now reached its highest level since October 5, 2025—a date etched in trader memory. Just five days later, the market experienced the severe "October 10th crash," which liquidated approximately $19 billion in leveraged positions.

A Broad-Based Rally: Bitcoin Leads, Altcoins and Memes Explode

This surge in sentiment is backed by solid price action. Bitcoin, the market bellwether, has powered the rally, climbing from under $68,000 last week to near the $80,000 threshold.

The real frenzy, however, is visible in riskier corners of the market. While major altcoins posted solid gains, several meme coins and low-cap tokens have gone parabolic. Dogecoin, for instance, rose about 24% over the week. Smaller, more niche meme tokens saw even more explosive moves, with some posting weekly gains of 131%, 113%, and nearly 100%, respectively.

Bull Run Signal or a Warning of Overheating?

Analysts are divided on what this flood of capital into high-risk, low-liquidity tokens means. On one hand, it is the clearest possible signal that risk appetite has returned to the market in full force.

On the other, such sentiment-driven, speculative surges detached from fundamentals are classic hallmarks of a short-term market top. They often precede increased volatility and sharp corrections. The current level of greed echoes conditions seen before past significant pullbacks.

The Next Catalyst: All Eyes on Macro Policy

The crypto market's fate remains tied to broader financial conditions. The upcoming keynote speech from the Federal Reserve chair is now the next major test for this rally. Any hints on the future path of monetary policy could instantly reshape liquidity expectations and risk sentiment, determining the sustainability of the current greed-fueled advance.
