The £190 Million Deal: Unpacking a Crypto Pioneer's London Exit
A discreet yet high-value transaction has rippled through London's luxury property market. According to the Financial Times, Li Lin, the former founder of cryptocurrency exchange Huobi, has sold his mansion, The Holme, overlooking Regent's Park for approximately £190 million. He initially acquired the property in 2024 for £139 million.
A Swift and Profitable Turnaround
Based on the reported figures, the sale represents a paper gain of around £51 million in under two years. The deal remained under the radar because the seller's identity was not publicly disclosed, and Lin's ownership was not directly reflected in the UK's public property registers.
The Holme is a notable asset. The historic property boasts 40 bedrooms and about four acres of private gardens within the prestigious Regent's Park area. It is held under a long-term lease from the Crown Estate, adding a layer of exclusivity to its profile.
Beyond the Exchange: Evolving Investment Footprint
Lin is best known for co-founding the Huobi exchange in 2013, before selling his stake in 2022. His investment movements post-Huobi have been closely watched.
His current investments are primarily managed through his family office, Avenir Group, headquartered in Hong Kong and focused on digital assets. Additionally, Lin is the largest shareholder of crypto wealth management group Bitfire Group, with a 30% stake.
The sale of this London landmark may signal a strategic adjustment within a broader portfolio. Against a backdrop of crypto market volatility and shifting global asset allocation, real estate moves by leading figures often offer clues to their evolving outlook and strategy.
