Crypto Founder Detained in Istanbul, Luxury Assets Seized

Turkish authorities detained cryptocurrency entrepreneur Richard Heart in Istanbul on October 14 during a coordinated raid. According to local reports, the operation was conducted jointly by the national intelligence agency and police forces at a private residence in the city.

Millions in Cash and Luxury Items Confiscated

During the search, law enforcement officials seized substantial evidence from the premises:

  • Approximately $4 million in cash
  • 53 Rolex and 11 Patek Philippe luxury watches
  • Multiple firearms and ammunition
  • Numerous electronic devices and storage media

Heart's wife, identified as A.K., was also detained at the scene. Both individuals remain in custody, though formal charges have not been fully disclosed.

Ongoing Regulatory Scrutiny Preceded Arrest

The arrest follows sustained regulatory pressure from multiple jurisdictions. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) previously filed charges against Heart and his associated projects:

Key allegations include: conducting unregistered securities offerings through cryptocurrency initiatives, raising over $1 billion; misappropriating at least $12 million of project funds for personal luxury purchases.

While an SEC lawsuit was dismissed on jurisdictional grounds in 2025, regulatory investigations have continued.

International Warrants and Tax Evasion Claims

Beyond U.S. regulatory actions, Heart faces legal challenges in other regions. Finnish authorities have issued an international warrant for his arrest on charges of serious tax evasion and involvement in an assault case. These cross-border legal issues may have contributed to the Turkish operation.

Industry analysts note that this incident highlights the increasingly complex legal landscape for cryptocurrency founders. As global regulatory coordination intensifies, compliance and personal conduct are facing heightened scrutiny.
