Major Funding Boost for AI-Powered Threat Defense
A digital threat detection startup has closed a $15 million Series A funding round. The investment was led by Mouro Capital, with significant participation from Visa Ventures and Capital One Ventures. Other backers include PruVen Capital, New Era Capital Partners, and Y Combinator.
Founders with a Strategic Vision
The company was founded in 2022 by Arjun Bisen, who serves as CEO, and Zara Perumal. Bisen brings unique public sector expertise to the venture, having previously worked as an Australian diplomat involved in shaping the country's cybersecurity strategy during the 2010s. This experience provided him with a firsthand view of the escalating scale and sophistication of digital threats facing organizations.
The startup's mission is to leverage advanced technologies, including AI agents, to help businesses build scalable and automated defenses against digital threats. Its client roster already features prominent names in fintech and consumer services, such as Visa, Capital One, Cash App, SoFi, Stripe, and DoorDash.
The Alarming Economics of Modern Cyberattacks
In a discussion about the current threat landscape, Bisen highlighted a critical shift: the proliferation of AI is making cybercrime faster, cheaper, and more interconnected. Citing Mastercard data, he noted that the cost to launch a single attack has now fallen below $3.
To illustrate the scale of automated threats, he described an incident where an attacker orchestrated over 100 distinct campaigns in roughly five days. These attacks compromised 27 different payment websites, resulting in the theft of sensitive data from more than 600,000 payment cards. This example underscores the challenge that low-cost, automated offensives pose to conventional security measures.
Why Investors Are Betting on This Space
The composition of this funding round, particularly the direct involvement of payment giants like Visa Ventures and Capital One Ventures, sends a strong signal. The financial industry is actively seeking next-generation security solutions to combat the rising tide of payment fraud and account takeover attacks.
Investors are backing not only the company's innovative AI-driven approach but also the team's deep understanding of the cybersecurity ecosystem and its proven solution, which is already trusted by leading fintech firms. In the digital economy, security is increasingly viewed not as a mere cost center but as a fundamental pillar for sustainable business growth.
