ENS V2 Fully Shifts to Ethereum L1 Deployment

On February 7, ENS COO Katherine Wu announced via X that the upcoming ENS V2 will be deployed exclusively on Ethereum L1, with the previously planned Namechain L2 project now canceled.

This strategic shift doesn't impact V2's core functionality or roadmap, which continues to focus on enhancing domain management flexibility and extensibility.

Enhanced Customization Through Independent Registries

With ENS V2, each .eth domain will feature its own independent registry, significantly improving user control and domain customization capabilities.

Additionally, the team is developing two brand-new applications that have already launched on testnet, promising to deliver richer user experiences in the near future.

Multi-chain Support Remains Central

Despite deploying on L1, ENS remains committed to multi-chain support, including .eth domain registration on any EVM-compatible chain and continued address support for non-EVM chains like Solana and Bitcoin.

This decision stems from comprehensive analysis of L2's evolving role within Ethereum's ecosystem, with full details available on ENS's official blog.

  • V2 to be deployed solely on Ethereum L1
  • Discontinuation of Namechain L2 development
  • Independent registries enhance flexibility
  • Expanded chain support roadmap continues
