Ethena Reshapes Its Future: A Strategic Pivot for the ENA Ecosystem

The Ethena Foundation has rolled out a comprehensive set of changes targeting its tokenomics and governance model. This isn't a minor tweak but a strategic effort to reconfigure the fundamental value flow and market expectations surrounding its ENA token.

The Direct Buyback: Addressing Early Investor Overhang

In a decisive move, the Foundation has purchased the entire locked ENA token allocations from several major early-stage investors. This action follows observed selling activity from these parties over recent months. By executing this buyback, the Foundation has proactively removed a source of potential future selling pressure, bringing those tokens under community-governed control.

Value Alignment: Token Holders as Ultimate Beneficiaries

A more structural change is enacted through a newly signed Master Framework Agreement between the Foundation and Ethena Labs. The agreement stipulates that all intellectual property and value generated by the protocol will belong to the Ethena Foundation. Consequently, governance rights and value accrual will be exercised solely by ENA token holders through voting mechanisms.

Critically, equity investors in Ethena Labs will no longer have a claim to the protocol's residual cash flows. This cleanly separates equity from token economics, directly channeling the incentives for protocol growth toward the ENA token.

Revenue Buyback: Building Sustainable Value Support

A community governance proposal is now live. If approved by the Risk Committee, it will initiate a program where the net revenue from all Ethena's business lines is used for systematic buybacks of ENA on the open market. This establishes a recurring, performance-based demand driver for ENA, potentially tethering its value more closely to the protocol's operational success.

Eliminating Future Unlocks: Cutting Off a Source of Sell Pressure

The Foundation has reached an agreement with core investors to cancel a portion of yet-to-be-vested tokens. The key outcome is the complete elimination of all future monthly token unlocks for venture capital investors. This move directly addresses a longstanding market concern regarding linear, predictable sell pressure. It's noted that team token allocations will remain locked according to their original vesting schedule.

Collectively, these measures signal a clear intent: to deeply align the token's value with the protocol's success, while improving ENA's market dynamics by reducing structural supply and introducing consistent demand. The market's response to this recalibration remains to be seen.
