ETH2 Deposit Contract Emerges as Top Holder
According to Arkham's latest Ethereum holdings report for 2026, the Ethereum 2.0 deposit contract is now the largest holder, with over 76.3 million ETH valued at approximately $24 billion, accounting for more than 60% of the total supply.
Exchanges and Institutions Follow Closely
Binance ranks second, holding around 4.1 million ETH (worth about $1.3 billion) on behalf of its users. ETF provider BlackRock holds 3.4 million ETH (worth about $1.1 billion). Bitmine, a treasury management company, has a confirmed on-chain balance of 2.9 million ETH (about $900 million), with rumors suggesting its total holdings may exceed 4.1 million.
Individual Holders Overview
Among individual holders, Ethereum presale investor Rain Lohmus leads with 250,000 ETH (about $786 million), though the wallet's private key has reportedly been lost. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin holds 240,000 ETH (about $754 million), making him the second-largest individual holder and the largest with an accessible address. The U.S. government holds approximately 60,000 ETH, mainly obtained through asset seizures linked to the Brian Krewson, Potapenko/Turogin, and Bitfinex hacker cases.
Exchange Addresses Dominate Top Holdings
The report also highlights that most of the top 20 Ethereum holding addresses are linked to exchanges, further emphasizing the dominance of institutional players within the ecosystem.
