First NEAR Spot ETF Clears Major Hurdle with NYSE Arca Approval
In a significant development for the digital asset space, NYSE Arca has given the green light to a spot exchange-traded fund focused solely on NEAR Protocol. Filed by asset manager Bitwise and slated to trade under the ticker "NRR," this product marks the first U.S.-listed ETF offering direct exposure to NEAR's native token.
Filling a Gap in the Market
Previously, U.S.-based investors seeking institutional-grade access to NEAR were largely limited to a trust product. The ETF structure addresses several limitations of that model by trading on a major national exchange. This translates to greater liquidity, tighter tracking of the underlying asset's value, and accessibility through conventional brokerage accounts.
The approval signals a maturation in the market for crypto investment vehicles, extending beyond the initial wave of Bitcoin and Ethereum funds.
Fund Structure and Key Features
The Bitwise NEAR ETF will carry a management fee of 0.75%. For custody of the fund's assets, Bitwise has selected Coinbase Custody, a regulated and established player in the digital asset security space.
A notable feature of the fund is its intent to stake the held NEAR tokens. This means the fund can potentially generate staking rewards from the protocol, which may be used to offset expenses or enhance returns for shareholders.
While an official listing date has not been announced, the regulatory approval from NYSE Arca is the critical step. Once live, "NRR" will provide a regulated, familiar investment wrapper for both institutional and retail investors to gain exposure to the NEAR ecosystem without the complexities of direct token ownership.
This move potentially paves the way for a broader suite of single-asset crypto ETFs, provided issuers can meet regulatory standards for custody, liquidity, and market surveillance.
