Independent Investigation into LAPTOP Token Launch Reveals Market Maker Role
Hunter Biden has publicly released the findings of an independent investigation into the controversial launch of the LAPTOP token. Conducted by forensic firm Groom Lake, the report addresses widespread speculation about the token's extreme price volatility and the team's conduct.
Key Findings: Market Makers at Fault, Team Tokens Untouched
The report places responsibility squarely on the actions of market makers rather than the project team. Hunter Biden firmly denied allegations of team profiteering, presenting on-chain evidence:
- Founder Tokens Unmoved: All tokens allocated to the founding team remain in a single wallet, with no transfers recorded since the launch.
- Personal Tokens Locked: Tokens allocated to Hunter Biden himself are locked for six months, followed by a two-year linear vesting schedule, preventing immediate sale.
How Market Makers Triggered the Price Rollercoaster
The investigation details the chaotic trading at launch. An entity labeled "Market Maker 1" is identified as the primary catalyst for the volatility.
Despite having $500,000 in startup capital, Market Maker 1 provided only about $5,200 in cash and fewer than 30,000 LAPTOP tokens to the decentralized exchange liquidity pool. This amounted to a mere 0.003% of the total token supply.
The critically low liquidity allowed the token's price to be driven from $0.05 to approximately $317 in under two minutes. This unsustainable spike was followed by a 98% crash within the next hour.
Market Maker Profits and Liquidity Withdrawal
The report states that 84 seconds after the price peak, Market Maker 1 began selling. Crucially, they also withdrew their liquidity during this sell-off, draining the pool of funds that could absorb selling pressure from roughly $16,200 to zero.
Analysis of the transactions shows:
- Market Maker 1 profited approximately $686,000 from its DEX positions.
- A related entity, Market Maker 2, netted over $2.1 million from associated DEX trades.
Hunter Biden stated that these actions directly caused the launch failure and that the responsible market makers should buy back and burn tokens to compensate the community.
Next Steps and Accepting Responsibility
Taking ultimate responsibility for the incident, Hunter Biden affirmed he will not abandon the LAPTOP project. As a corrective measure, he announced plans to burn a majority of the unclaimed tokens from the initial airdrop next week. This airdrop constituted 10% of the total token supply.
