Hyperliquid Prepares Network Upgrade with Key Parameter Changes

Hyperliquid has announced details for an upcoming network upgrade, focusing on two major parameter adjustments. The changes target the perpetual contract funding rate mechanism and deployment limits for developers, both implemented in direct response to ongoing community feedback.

Funding Rate Cap Drastically Reduced for Smoother Trading

The most significant change for traders is a sharp reduction in the funding rate cap. Post-upgrade, the maximum hourly funding rate will be lowered from 4% to 0.5%.

The platform stated that the previous 4% cap was rarely reached in practice, serving primarily as an emergency safety measure. Lowering it to 0.5% aims to create a more gradual cost adjustment when contract prices diverge from the spot price. This provides traders, especially those holding positions opposite to the funding rate direction, with a more predictable cost structure during volatile periods, enabling finer risk management.

This adjustment refines the funding rate mechanism, preserving its core price-balancing function while offering a calmer cost environment for all market participants.

Enhanced Flexibility for Developers Building on HIP-4

The upgrade also introduces greater flexibility for ecosystem developers working with HIP-4 outcome contracts. The key changes include:

  • Doubled Active Contract Limit: The maximum number of active outcome contracts a single deployer can maintain simultaneously increases from 100 to 200.
  • Doubled Daily Deployment Limit: The daily deployment cap for new outcome contracts per deployer rises from 500 to 1000.

Relaxing these constraints addresses bottlenecks developers faced when building complex applications or managing numerous prediction market contracts. The higher limits offer more flexibility and scalability, potentially encouraging the creation of more sophisticated on-chain derivative and prediction market applications, thereby enriching the Hyperliquid ecosystem.

The Strategic Rationale: Balancing Safety, Efficiency, and Experience

Viewed together, these changes reflect Hyperliquid's approach: maintaining protocol security while refining core financial parameters for a better trader experience and removing friction for builders to foster innovation.

While a specific timeline for the upgrade hasn't been released, these announced adjustments signal the platform's commitment to iterative improvement and community-driven development. For both traders and developers, this represents a positive step forward.
