Trading AI Compute: Injective Launches On-Chain GPU Rental Index
The blockchain ecosystem is turning its attention to the foundational layer of artificial intelligence. Injective has officially launched the Super Intelligent Compute Index, an on-chain benchmark designed to track the rental market prices of critical GPU hardware.
Inside the SICI Index Composition
The index aggregates real-time rental data from five key NVIDIA GPU models essential for contemporary AI training and inference workloads. Its weighting reflects current market demand:
- The H100 carries the largest weight at 40%
- The B200 accounts for 25%
- The H200 represents 15%
- A100 and RTX 4090 each hold a 10% share
Data is sourced from actual compute rental markets and updated hourly, ensuring the index remains responsive to supply, demand, and price fluctuations.
Introducing 10x Leverage for Compute Market Exposure
Moving beyond data provision, Injective has introduced perpetual contracts linked to the SICI index, offering up to 10x leverage. This allows traders to gain exposure to future movements in compute costs without physically owning or leasing the hardware.
For AI developers, cloud providers, or investors, this creates a novel tool for hedging against compute cost volatility or speculating on industry trends. One might take a long position anticipating a surge in compute demand, or use it as a hedge.
The Road Ahead: Blending AI and DeFi
This launch appears to be just the beginning. The announcement indicated that more structured financial products based on the SICI index could be introduced in the coming days. This initiative represents a deeper convergence of decentralized finance with a core productive element of the digital economy—AI compute—opening new avenues for liquidity, price discovery, and risk management.
