Meta Resumes Stablecoin Initiative
According to insiders, Meta is preparing to resume its stablecoin-related activities in the second half of the year. The company is actively integrating third-party payment providers to support stablecoin transactions and developing a new digital wallet.
Meta has issued product requirement invitations to multiple companies, aiming to identify suitable partners for collaboration. Notably, longtime partner Stripe is among the top candidates for the pilot program.
Stripe's Strategic Position
Stripe has extensive experience in the stablecoin space. Last year, it acquired Bridge, a firm specialized in stablecoin technology, and has maintained a close working relationship with Meta. Stripe CEO Patrick Collison joined Meta's board in April 2025, strengthening the strategic alignment between the two companies.
A Rocky Stablecoin History
Meta first attempted to launch a stablecoin in 2019 with the Libra project, later renamed Diem. However, due to regulatory challenges and the fallout from the Cambridge Analytica scandal, the initiative failed to gain traction. The project was eventually shut down and its assets sold in early 2022.
