Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani has directly linked the recent tensions in the Straits of Hormuz to military activities by the United States and Israel. He asserted that external interference is the primary cause of the deteriorated stability in this crucial maritime corridor.

Kanaani noted that prior to what he termed "illegal military operations" against Iran by the US and Israel, the Straits of Hormuz remained fully open and secure. The instability, he argued, stems from the exploitation of this waterway and adjacent areas by these nations to plan and execute attacks targeting Iran, thereby undermining regional security.
Iran's Stance and Right to Respond
As a littoral state, Iran firmly asserted its prerogatives. Kanaani stated: "Safeguarding national interests and security is Iran's legitimate right, both in the past and present." He clarified that Iran reserves the right to take necessary measures in response to threats, a declaration widely seen as a formal position on potential regional conflicts.
Condemnation and Diplomatic Breakthrough
In his remarks, Kanaani also condemned the US maritime blockade against Iran, labeling it an "act of aggression" and a violation of previous bilateral understandings. Despite external obstacles, Iran and Oman have successfully concluded talks, reaching an agreement on transit arrangements through the Straits of Hormuz.
