Iran Labels US 'Deportation' Claims as Fabricated
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani firmly rejected recent U.S. allegations that two members of Iran's UN General Assembly delegation were "deported." On the 4th, Kanaani stated the U.S. account was entirely false, characterizing it as an attempt to achieve political goals through misinformation.
Travel Was Pre-Arranged; U.S. Pressure Cited for Early Departure
Kanaani clarified the actual circumstances of the delegation's travel. He explained that the entire itinerary, from entry to departure, had been clearly and properly arranged from the outset. While confirming that one Iranian diplomat had initially planned to stay longer in New York for duties, Kanaani noted this individual left earlier due to pressure from U.S. authorities. All other delegation members departed as scheduled.
A Tactical Shift: U.S. Accused of Undignified Moves After Setbacks
Kanaani framed the incident within broader diplomatic tensions. He suggested the core issue was the United States' failed attempt to block Iran's participation in the UN meeting and isolate the country internationally. Following these setbacks, the U.S. has resorted to what he called "absurd fabrications."
"Such actions demonstrate a lack of dignity," Kanaani emphasized, "This appears more as a narrative manipulation after political objectives were thwarted, rather than an official statement based on facts."
The exchange highlights the deep mistrust and ongoing geopolitical rivalry between the two nations, often playing out in diplomatic forums like the United Nations.
