Iran Prioritizes Agreement Implementation
Iran's foreign ministry has outlined its current diplomatic focus, placing the effective execution of a signed memorandum of understanding at the top of its agenda.
Progress on Key Provisions
The agreement encompasses several specific commitments. A spokesperson highlighted two critical areas currently in motion:
- Oil Export Licenses: As per the memorandum, the necessary licenses for Iran to export oil have been issued by the United States. Iranian officials stated they are closely monitoring the practical implementation of these permits.
- Unfreezing Assets: Another pivotal clause involves the release of Iran's previously frozen foreign assets. The spokesperson confirmed that procedures related to this provision are currently underway.
To follow up on the ground, Iran is dispatching a technical delegation to Qatar this week for working consultations. The primary objective of this visit is to discuss the implementation details of the agreement, including the asset release clause.
Conditions for Final Talks and US Contact
The spokesperson clarified that formal negotiations for a final agreement have not yet commenced. The memorandum itself stipulates a clear prerequisite for starting such talks: several foundational provisions, including those on oil exports and assets, must begin implementation and be consistently upheld.
Addressing speculation about Iran-US engagement, the spokesperson emphasized that no negotiations at any level with the United States are scheduled in the coming days. He also distinguished the purpose of the Iranian technical team's visit to Qatar from the travel of US representatives to the same country, stating the two are unrelated. Iran's delegation is solely focused on follow-up work regarding the agreement's execution.
