Iran Issues Stark Warning Over US Military Moves
A senior adviser within Iran's foreign ministry has delivered a sharply worded statement regarding escalating regional tensions. Ali Safari explicitly warned that recent US military actions "will not go unanswered," directly challenging Washington's posture.
The Central Dispute: Security of the Strait of Hormuz
Safari centered the dispute on a Memorandum of Understanding signed in mid-June. He asserted that the document entrusts Iran with primary responsibility for formulating future arrangements for the Strait of Hormuz, in consultation with Oman and other nations.
"The United States has failed to honor the commitments it made in the agreement," Safari stated. He criticized a new southern shipping route established under US pressure in the Gulf.
- Heightened Security Risks: He argued this route undermines the MoU's implementation and creates serious navigational hazards, including an increased risk of maritime collisions.
- Questionable Practices: He singled out the practice of requiring vessels to transit the area with navigation systems disabled as "irresponsible."
An Ultimatum and a Show of Force
Safari's remarks bordered on an ultimatum to the US. "America must choose: either abide by the agreement it signed 23 days ago, or renounce its commitments completely," he declared.
Concluding with a display of resolve, he added, "Iran is far more powerful than you imagine. We are prepared for war." This rhetoric significantly raises the stakes in an already volatile security environment, positioning the future of the critical Strait of Hormuz as the latest flashpoint in US-Iranian tensions.
