Armed Group in Iraq Launches Drone Attacks on US Bases

According to Xinhua News Agency, on March 1, a militant group affiliated with the Islamic Resistance in Iraq released a statement claiming responsibility for a drone attack on a US military base in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdish Autonomous Region in northern Iraq. The group stated that the attack was carried out to support Iran against American and Israeli aggression and to protect Iraqi sovereignty.

Multiple Strikes Against US Targets

On February 28, the group also announced that it had launched dozens of drones against US military bases in Iraq and other parts of the Middle East, carrying out a total of 16 attacks that day. These operations indicate the group's capability to conduct sustained and widespread military actions.

  • The attacks were strategically focused on areas where US forces are stationed.
  • Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were the primary weapon, showing low technical barriers but significant impact.
  • The actions are closely tied to the regional geopolitical climate, aimed at expressing solidarity with Iran.

Regional Tensions Are Worthy of Attention

With the Middle East remaining unstable, Iraq, as a key regional player, faces multiple security challenges. Such attacks could have far-reaching implications for US-Iran relations and the domestic political landscape in Iraq.
