Control of the 'Security Zone': A Non-Negotiable Demand
Katz detailed Israel's central position in his statement. Israel intends to "maintain its current deployment" within Lebanon and continue controlling a unilaterally defined "security zone" in southern Lebanon, which includes the strategic Beaufort Heights. This stance stems from persistent Israeli security concerns regarding its northern border.
The condition for any future Israeli withdrawal is unequivocal: Hezbollah must be fully disarmed across all of Lebanese territory. Israel views this as an absolute prerequisite.

Katz stated that he and Prime Minister Netanyahu have "instructed the IDF to prepare for a long-term stay in the 'security zone.'"
