Background and Legal Procedure
JPMorgan has filed a motion to transfer former President Trump’s lawsuit regarding account closures from Miami to a federal court in New York. The bank pointed out in its filing that Trump and his companies signed agreements indicating that any disputes should be resolved in New York, where the bank is headquartered.
Connections to New York
JPMorgan emphasized that the accounts in question were opened in New York and managed by bankers based in the state. Furthermore, the activities that led to Trump’s lawsuit also occurred in New York, supporting the argument that the case should be transferred for judicial fairness and public interest.
Trump’s Allegations
In January, Trump sued JPMorgan and its CEO Jamie Dimon, seeking at least $5 billion in damages. He accused the bank of implementing a 'de-banking' strategy against him and his companies following the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack.
