Kioxia's Profits Skyrocket as AI Boom Fuels Memory Chip Demand
Memory chip leader Kioxia has posted exceptionally strong results for its second quarter of fiscal year 2026 (July-September), significantly surpassing market expectations. The company announced on October 30th that quarterly revenue reached 2.480 trillion yen, a substantial 40.3% increase from the previous quarter. The profit performance was even more striking, with operating profit hitting 1.995 trillion yen, marking a remarkable 57.1% quarter-over-quarter jump.
The Driving Force: Generative AI Takes Center Stage
Kioxia directly attributed this explosive growth to one key factor: robust demand from customers building data centers for generative artificial intelligence. This surge in demand translated into two concrete benefits for the company:
- A significant rise in the average selling price (ASP) of its products.
- A concurrent increase in bit shipments.
This combination indicates that Kioxia is benefiting from both higher pricing and greater volume, creating a powerful dual effect on its financials.
Looking Ahead: Guidance and Shareholder Returns
Bolstered by the current momentum, Kioxia provided an optimistic outlook. The company forecasts its net profit for the first nine months of the fiscal year to reach 3.56 trillion yen, representing a 61.0% sequential increase. For the ongoing third quarter, Kioxia set an operating profit expectation of 2.00 trillion yen.
Aligning with its strong performance, the company also announced it will reward shareholders by issuing an interim dividend of 90 yen per share.
This earnings report serves as a clear indicator that the memory chip industry, a foundational hardware component, is entering a new cycle of high demand fueled by the global race among tech giants to deploy generative AI. Kioxia's results offer a crucial window into this significant market shift.
