KITE Token Recovery Plan: Secure Contract Migration to Isolate Attacker
In response to the recent security breach, the KITE Foundation has outlined a concrete recovery strategy. The centerpiece of this plan is the deployment of a new, thoroughly audited ERC-20 token contract on Ethereum mainnet, followed by a full-scale token migration. The primary objective is clear: to safeguard legitimate user assets while permanently excluding addresses controlled by the attacker.
The Migration Mechanism: Snapshot Finalized, Attacker Excluded
The migration will operate on several key principles:
- Fixed Supply, 1:1 Swap: The total supply of the new KITE token remains unchanged. All verified legitimate holders will receive new tokens at a 1:1 ratio.
- Definitive Snapshot: The migration will be based entirely on the state of the Ethereum mainnet at block height 25,692,498 (mined on August 6, 2026, at 09:05:23 UTC). Transactions after this point are irrelevant for migration eligibility.
- Targeted Exclusion: Addresses identified and confirmed as being under the attacker's control will be excluded from the migration list and will not receive any new tokens.
The team confirmed that the new contract has undergone an independent third-party security audit, designed to eliminate the root cause of the previous vulnerability.
User Action Required: Mostly "Zero Interaction"
The migration process differs based on how you hold your tokens:
For users with tokens in self-custody wallets (EOAs like MetaMask): The process is fully automated. Based on the snapshot, the new tokens will be airdropped directly to your original wallet address. No website visits, wallet connections, transaction signing, or gas fees are required. Simply wait for the tokens to appear.
For users holding KITE on centralized exchanges: No action is needed on your part. The migration will be coordinated between the exchanges and the KITE team. Each exchange will update its systems and gradually re-enable deposits and withdrawals according to its own timeline. Please monitor official announcements from your exchange.
Service Status and Critical Security Advisory
All cross-chain bridge and transfer services will remain suspended until the migration and verification processes are fully complete. This is a security measure to prevent any fund movement during the transition. Liquidity for the new token will be restored on decentralized exchanges post-migration.
The team issued a strong warning regarding increased scam activity during this period. Community members must remain vigilant:
- Beware of individuals posing as official support, privately asking for seed phrases, private keys, passwords, or 2FA codes.
- Avoid phishing websites that prompt you to connect your wallet to "confirm" or "speed up" migration.
- Ignore links promising "extra compensation" or "airdrops."
The official team will never ask for migration fees or any sensitive information. All new contract addresses and migration updates will be published exclusively through the project's official social media channels and blog. Treat these as the sole source of truth.
