Significant Reshuffle in DRAM Fund Holdings Reflects Evolving Market

Recent portfolio disclosure reveals a substantial rebalancing by a fund tracking the DRAM industry. The changes go beyond simple weight adjustments, introducing a new key player into its core holdings.

Samsung Takes the Top Spot, Hierarchy Shifts

The most notable move is Samsung Electronics overtaking Micron Technology to become the fund’s largest holding. The weighting of fellow Korean giant SK Hynix was also reduced. Despite this internal reshuffle, the combined allocation for the three dominant DRAM players—Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix—remains firmly above 75%. This indicates a continued belief in the highly concentrated structure of the industry, even as capital rotates among the leaders.

New Entrant from China: GigaDevice Breaks into Top Tier

A significant development is the inclusion of Chinese semiconductor firm GigaDevice Innovation into the fund’s top ten holdings for the first time. The A-listed memory design company entered directly at the eighth position, with an allocation of approximately 2.91%. This move signals growing global investor recognition of competitive Chinese players in the memory sector.

The rebalance also involved trimming exposure to several other existing holdings. Weights for companies including SanDisk and Kioxia Holdings were reduced.

This portfolio shift appears to be a proactive response to evolving market conditions, corporate fundamentals, and sector trends. It reinforces confidence in the leading Korean manufacturers while simultaneously allocating capital to a rising Chinese contender, reflecting a nuanced view of the global memory landscape.
