A New Chapter in Green Hashrate: Mining Giants Secure Wind Power
The cryptocurrency mining industry is rapidly pivoting towards sustainable energy sources. In a significant infrastructure move, two major players have formed a strategic partnership to leverage wind power in Texas for Bitcoin mining, with operations set to begin in the coming years.
The Deal: A Fusion of Technology and Resources
The collaboration is scheduled to commence in September 2026. Bitdeer, through its subsidiary Dory Creek, will deploy its latest generation of high-performance mining machines at Soluna's "Project Kati1" wind-powered data center in Willacy County, Texas.
Key aspects of the deployment include:
- Power Capacity: An initial dedicated draw of 28 megawatts (MW).
- Hashrate Contribution: An estimated addition of approximately 1.93 EH/s to the Bitcoin network.
- Business Model: A straightforward profit-sharing agreement. Soluna, as the facility operator, provides the site, stable green power, and day-to-day operations. Bitdeer supplies and retains ownership of all miners. The parties will share the Bitcoin revenue generated from this equipment based on pre-defined terms.
Context: The Growing Texas Wind Mining Hub
Project Kati1 has a total capacity of 83 MW, positioning it as a key renewable energy infrastructure site for computing. Prior to this deal, financial services firm Galaxy Digital was already utilizing 48 MW of capacity at the facility for Bitcoin mining. Bitdeer's entry signals further validation and utilization of this resource by established mining entities, pushing the site toward its full capacity.
Texas, with its deregulated grid, abundance of renewable energy (particularly wind), and relatively favorable regulations, has become a global epicenter for Bitcoin mining. Long-term, power-centric partnerships like this one underscore the industry's strategic focus on securing stable, low-cost, and sustainable energy—a trend that will significantly influence the geographic distribution and energy profile of the Bitcoin network in the future.
