Strategic Seoul Visit Signals New Tech Alliances

NVIDIA's chief executive Jensen Huang arrived in Seoul last week for high-level meetings with South Korea's leading technology firms. The visit underscores growing collaboration in artificial intelligence hardware and data center solutions.

Memory Chip Partnership Takes Shape

During discussions with journalists outside a Seoul restaurant, Huang revealed technical cooperation specifics. NVIDIA's upcoming Vera central processing unit will utilize SK Hynix's DRAM memory chips. "Our collaboration with SK Hynix will expand significantly this year," Huang noted, "with preparations underway for deeper cooperation in the second half and next year."

The new processor represents NVIDIA's strategic move into the data center market, positioning it against Intel's Xeon series, AMD's EPYC chips, and Amazon's Graviton processors.

High-Profile Executive Meetings

Huang's itinerary included meetings with multiple industry leaders:

  • Dinner with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, SK Hynix CEO Kwak Noh-Jung, and SK Telecom executives
  • Scheduled formal talks with Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Jun Young-hyun
  • Meetings arranged with Hyundai Motor Group and LG Group representatives

Exploring New AI Applications

Beyond hardware collaboration, Huang highlighted discussions with telecommunications providers. "We're exploring how future telecom networks can support artificial intelligence applications," he explained, "which represents a key development direction for 5G and 6G technologies."

The visit comes during a period of global semiconductor industry realignment, with NVIDIA's strengthened partnerships potentially reshaping AI chip supply chains worldwide.
