On-Chain Protocol Revenue Tops $1.4 Billion
Newly released data reveals that a leading on-chain perpetuals protocol has hit a significant financial milestone, with its cumulative total revenue soaring past $1.4 billion. This figure underscores not only massive user adoption and activity but also the sustainability and strong cash-flow generation of its underlying business model.
Where Do the Profits Go? Over 90% Fuels Token Buybacks
The allocation of this substantial revenue is particularly noteworthy. Of the $1.4 billion total, more than $1.26 billion has been designated for buying back the protocol's native token on the open market. This translates to over 90% of protocol earnings being directly returned to token holders.
Such a large-scale, sustained buyback program is widely seen in crypto as a strong signal of value accrual. It directly links the protocol's profitability to token valuation, theoretically providing long-term fundamental support for the token price by reducing its circulating supply. This model presents a more substantive foundation compared to many projects reliant on narrative alone.
Market Dominance: Commanding Over Half of On-Chain Perpetuals
The protocol's revenue achievement is tightly coupled with its market position. It currently accounts for more than 56% of the total open interest across all on-chain perpetuals markets. In practical terms, this means that over half of the capital deployed in on-chain perpetual trading is settled within this single protocol.
This dominant market share is likely built upon its product experience, liquidity depth, capital efficiency, and innovative trading mechanisms. It has evolved from being a mere contender to a key player setting the standard for the on-chain derivatives landscape.
A Thriving Ecosystem: Wallets Capture Value via Incentives
The flourishing protocol ecosystem is creating value for upstream participants as well. The report also highlights that major wallets like Phantom and MetaMask have generated significant revenue by participating in the protocol's ecosystem builder incentive programs. Phantom's earnings from this initiative have exceeded $25 million, while MetaMask has garnered over $10.5 million.
This illustrates the flywheel of a healthy DeFi ecosystem: a core protocol uses its substantial revenue to reinforce its token economics, while its growth dividends spill over to partners like wallets and infrastructure providers, collectively strengthening the entire value network.
