Ondo Finance Launches Ondo Network: A New Architecture for High-Speed Trading

Ondo Finance, a protocol focused on real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, has officially launched the Ondo Network. This new execution layer architecture represents a significant upgrade to its technological stack.

From Chain to Network: A Strategic Pivot

Ondo CEO Ian De Bode framed the Ondo Network as an "evolution" of the earlier Ondo Chain concept. The team's experience building Ondo Perps led them to identify trade execution, not settlement, as the primary bottleneck for high-performance trading. This realization directly informed the new network's design philosophy.

Architectural Breakthrough: Balancing Speed and Sovereignty

The innovation of Ondo Network lies in its modular approach, which decouples the three core functions of a trading system: execution, validation, and settlement.

  • Execution Speed: A dedicated layer aims to deliver transaction speeds competitive with centralized exchanges.
  • Non-Custodial Security: Users retain self-custody of their assets throughout the process.
  • On-Chain Settlement: Final settlement occurs on-chain, ensuring transparency and immutability.

This structure is designed to enhance throughput and privacy while maintaining the permissionless access and user sovereignty fundamental to DeFi.

First Application Live: Ondo Perps Trading Platform

The inaugural application built on this new network is Ondo Perps, a perpetual futures trading platform. It currently supports trading of perpetual contracts linked to equities and commodities.

A key feature is its acceptance of tokenized real-world assets—such as tokenized treasury bonds—as collateral. This functionality bridges traditional finance with decentralized derivatives, potentially offering RWA holders new avenues for capital utilization.
