Phantom Wallet Service Update: Monad Network Support Ending Soon

On July 25, the popular crypto wallet Phantom announced a significant service change. The wallet plans to officially discontinue technical support for the Monad network starting August 26, 2024. After this date, users will no longer be able to interact directly with the Monad blockchain through the Phantom wallet interface.

Asset Security and Migration Paths

The Phantom team emphasized in the announcement that all user assets on the Monad network remain secure and fully under user control throughout this transition. This is due to its non-custodial wallet architecture—ownership of on-chain assets always resides with the user via private keys and recovery phrases, not the wallet provider.

To ensure a smooth process, two clear options for handling assets will be available:

  • Option 1: Migrate to a Compatible Wallet – After the transition period, users can import their existing recovery phrase into any other non-custodial wallet that supports the Monad network to continue accessing and managing their native MON assets.
  • Option 2: Exchange Assets Within Phantom – Users can opt to exchange their native Monad assets for Wrapped MON (a wrapped version) on the Solana blockchain directly within the Phantom wallet application. This provides a convenient alternative without needing to move recovery phrases.

Official Support and Next Steps

Phantom has committed to sending detailed reminders and instructions via its in-app notification system to all Monad network users before the cutoff date. Additionally, comprehensive support documentation will be published to guide users step-by-step through the migration or exchange process.

For now, users do not need to take immediate action. All Monad network functions will remain operational until August 26. It is advisable for users to watch for the forthcoming official guides and decide in advance which option—migration or exchange—best suits their preferences.
