Putin Signals Openness to High-Level Dialogue

In a closely watched press conference, the Russian leader shared his latest assessment of the current situation. He revealed that through a communication relayed by a European head of government, he received a message regarding Ukraine's interest in a top-level meeting.

Flexibility on Venue for Potential Talks

Responding to the possibility of dialogue, the Russian side demonstrated openness. "We are not against holding a meeting," he stated, presenting two options: "If there is such a desire, they can come to Moscow. We also have no objection to talks in a third country."

However, he crucially emphasized a core precondition: "Any talks should serve one clear goal—reaching and signing a final agreement." This statement sets clear expectations for any potential diplomatic engagement.

Parade Decisions and Operational Focus

Addressing the recent Victory Day commemorations, he explained the absence of heavy military hardware from the parade. "This was not solely for security reasons," he clarified, "The more important reason is that our armed forces should focus all their efforts on thoroughly completing their combat tasks."

He added that this arrangement was part of plans finalized well before certain threats were issued by the Ukrainian side.

Prisoner Exchange Issue at an Impasse

On another critical humanitarian issue, he provided an update. According to his account, Russia had previously initiated a proposal for an exchange involving hundreds of detainees. However, "The Ukrainian side postponed its response multiple times, and to this day we have not received any concrete proposal from them on this matter."

He noted that this Russian proposal was made before a former US leader publicly discussed a similar concept.
