Shiba Inu Community Alerts Users to Proliferation of Fake TREAT Tokens

A prominent member of the Shiba Inu community has raised a red flag regarding a significant security concern. Investigations reveal that Ethereum currently hosts a staggering 366 token contracts using the "TREAT" name or similar tickers, nearly all of which are unauthorized impersonators.

Decoding Scammer Rhetoric

The community insider highlighted a specific deceptive tactic. He warned that if anyone tries to justify the existence of "two tokens under the same ticker," treat it as an immediate red flag. This narrative is commonly fabricated by bad actors to lend false legitimacy to their counterfeit assets and lure unsuspecting buyers.

Identifying the Official TREAT Token

To combat this confusion, the member provided clear guidance for verification:

  • Official Networks: The legitimate Shiba Inu ecosystem TREAT token is deployed on both the Ethereum mainnet and its Layer-2 solution, Shibarium.
  • The Golden Rule: Always cross-reference the official smart contract address that has been publicly shared. This is the only reliable method to confirm a token's authenticity.

A Note on an Unrelated Legacy Token

The warning also clarified the status of an older TREAT token created on January 13, 2023. This asset is a completely separate, independent project with no affiliation to the current Shiba Inu ecosystem. Investors should be aware of this distinction to avoid confusion.

The overarching message from the community is one of vigilance. In the DeFi space, investing based solely on a token's name or ticker is a high-risk gamble. Taking a moment to verify the contract address before any transaction remains the most fundamental step in securing your digital assets.
