Stablecoin Payments Hit Inflection Point: Visa Data Shows Corporate Adoption Accelerating

New figures from Visa paint a vivid picture: stablecoins are rapidly transitioning from experimental technology to mainstream business utility. The payment volume processed through Visa's stablecoin-linked card programs has skyrocketed by nearly 200% year-over-year, with the network now supporting over 160 distinct card initiatives.

Corporate Demand Emerges as a Major Catalyst

The corporate sector's activity is particularly noteworthy. So far in the current fiscal year, business and commercial card programs have accounted for approximately 17% of the total transaction volume on stablecoin-linked cards. This signals that institutional users are becoming a significant driver of this payment method's expansion.

Mark Nelsen, Head of Visa's Global Product, Commercial & Money Movement Solutions, emphasized that businesses are not adopting new payment technology for its own sake. Their primary goal is to find trustworthy, reliable, and efficient methods for moving money. Stablecoins, with their advantages in settlement speed and cost, are increasingly being discussed and deployed for practical use cases like supplier payments, treasury operations, and cross-border commerce.

Payments: The Fastest-Growing Stablecoin Use Case

Citing research from Allium, Visa highlighted that payments have now become the fastest-growing application for stablecoins. The estimated annual payment volume facilitated by stablecoins globally ranges from $401 billion to $527 billion.

  • Service Fee Payments: ~$56 billion
  • Payroll Disbursements: ~$43 billion
  • Supplier Payments: ~$28 billion

Within this landscape, cross-border B2B payments dominate, representing 43% of the total. This high share underscores the tangible value stablecoins provide in addressing long-standing pain points in international transfers, such as delays and high fees. Real-world commercial needs are decisively shaping the evolution of stablecoin utility.
